Governors
The Governance of Mangotsfield CE (VC) Primary School
Governors are an elected group made up of parents, school staff, Local Authority, Diocesan and co-opted representatives. The Head and the Vicar of St James, Mangotsfield are permanent members with all others serving a four-year term. Governors oversee the management and leadership of the school and act as ‘critical friend’ to the school. All governors at Mangotsfield CE (VC) Primary School take a great interest in the school. They work in partnership with our talented and dedicated staff team to deliver the best possible educational experience for the children.
At Mangotsfield, the role of the Governing Board is to:
- Set the aims and objectives for the school
- Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- Set the targets for achieving those aims and objective
- Monitor and evaluate progress the school is making towards its aims and objectives
- Be a source of challenge and support to the Head
Our Governing Board (GB) is made of 12 Governors appointed through different ways as follows:
2 Parent Governors – elected by Parents and Carers of pupils at the school
3 Foundation Governors – appointed by the Foundation, that is the Bristol Diocese of the Church of England
2 Staff Governors – the Head and one other elected by School Staff
1 LA Governor – appointed by the Local Authority
4 Co Opted Governors – appointed by the Governing Board
The school also employs a Clerk to the Governors to run the administration of the Governing Board and oversee legal compliance.
The GB conducts its business through six yearly full meetings and the meetings of three committees. Governors also have a link role such as Literacy, Sports, FoMPS liaison etc.
The committees are as follows:
Finance & Premises: Meet three times a year. Responsible for the school budget and maintenance of the premises.
Curriculum & Standards: Meet three times a year. Responsible for monitoring pupil standards and overseeing curriculum.
Staffing & HR: Meet four times a year. Responsible for managing the staffing requirements.
Minutes of each GB meeting are approved and signed by the Chair at the following meeting. Once approved, they are posted here. A paper copy is stored in the school office, available for any member of the school community to view. Minutes are also circulated to the Local Authority.
Governor Day
To help establish positive working relationships between the Governors and the children and staff at our school, we hold an annual “Governors’ Day”. Governors are invited into school to work with the children and teachers in their classes. This might be to support an English or Maths lesson or may even involve getting messy in Art or sporty in PE! It’s a day thoroughly enjoyed by all and the children love having the opportunity to work with a variety of adults.
The current Governing Board is made up as follows:
Current Chairs:
Chair of Governors: Karen Hill
Vice Chair of Governors: Richard Capp
Chair of Finance & Premises: James Hyde
Chair of Staffing & HR: Jane Huzzey
Chair of Curriculum & Standards: vacancy
